Historical records also show: In 1808, Gia Long and the court decided to choose a low hill above Thien Mu pagoda, close to the left bank of the Perfume River, which is in An Ninh Thuong district, Huong Tra district, about 5 km from Hue citadel. km to the west to build first. At that time, Quoc Tu Giam school was also established here and operated until 1908 before moving to Thanh Noi.
Quoc Tu Giam school has a large area. In 1821, the school built another Di Luan Duong building consisting of 5 compartments and 2 fishing grounds, behind which was a lecture hall with 7 compartments and 2 leaners. The two school buildings are 3 rooms with 2 wings and surrounded by a protective wall.
In 1908, during the reign of Duy Tan, Quoc Tu Giam was moved inside the Imperial City, outside the Southeast of the Imperial Citadel (present location). Compared to the old architecture, the new Quoc Tu Giam was built with many new constructions, in which, the old architecture of Di Luan Duong was kept unchanged. The two sides are two rows of classrooms remain the same and student dormitories; behind the school, in the middle is the Tan Tho Vien building, flanked by the houses of the Teu Tuu, Tuoi (principal, assistant principal) and other school officials. Among these constructions, Di Luan Duong, Tan Tho Vien and the building for Teu Quoc Tu Giam are traditional wooden structures with high artistic value (Tan Tho Vien). , Di Luan Duong is derived from the architectural works of Palace Bao Dinh).
